"To separate power and authority is to separate force and justice"
Looking to ancient Greek history... I think some important things have gone awry these days.
I was not a fan of history in High School; but today, I look at articles that cross my desktop and recall some of the things that were taught in the classroom. This "separation" description is one thing that led to the demise of Greece and the superpowers at the time: Athens and Sparta.
Jose Maria J. Yulo discusses the Tragedy of Democracy without Authority and quotes Jacques Maritan... "Democracies were acutely problematic when they did not collectively comprehend the necessity of legitimate authority permeating the polis (classic city-state). Lacking this understanding, power was elevated in authority's absence. Ultimately, this led to the degeneration of societies thus constructed because, "To separate power and authority is to separate force and justice".
Sound like anything our Country is involved in today?

And then there's this, it speaks for itself.
