Then there is the Greater Wisconsin Political Fund
The direct-mail flier, received by voters across the Wausau area, was sent under the name of the Greater Wisconsin Political Fund and lists the names and addresses of the recipient's neighbors and information about whether those neighbors voted (or not) in the 2008 and 2010 general elections.
According to the message on the flier, it was intended to bolster voter turnout in today's election. "We're sending this mailing to you and your neighbors to publicize who does and does not vote," the text said. Here is this PAC's agenda.
That may be so, but at my condominium in Glendale, Wisconsin, I know that some names listed on the card are known to vote Democrat, and did not list all those in my immediate neighborhood. My question is: "How did the GWPF know that?" It seems to have been a "get out the vote" tactic targeted to Democrats using the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board's public information data base. To my knowledge, how people voted is not public information.
More specifically, one neighbor was approached by an individual who asked for them specifically by name. The neighbor asked who he was and said he was there to encourage people to vote. The neighbor asked why he was not knocking on the three other doors in our courtyard. He responded that the neighbors name was the only one on his list.
My neighbor votes Democrat, but did not appreciate that intrusion.
