A little bit about me...
This is a short progression of photos throughout the years. This was me while at Air Force National Guard during technical training in Biloxi, MS. I was about 18 or 19 years old at that time - around 1960.
Fast forward past weddings and all that stuff and this is me during the early 1990's for the Wisconsin Professional Photographers Association membership listing. This was taken by Fuzzy Duenkel and is why it looks so good. This was during the early years of Portraits & Dreams Photography Studio.
Next is Kathy and I in Arizona. We were there in 2003 to photograph her God-daughters wedding in Phoenix. Take note of my expanding gut... more about that later.
A portrait of me with my sons Michael and Greg, taken in 2005.
Next was a photo-op at Lions Den Park in Grafton in July of 2013, WI . Needless to say, I am now retired. During these past 10 years up to this point, I was able to amass close to 200 pounds of body weight, and I soon realized that, according to my doctors' reports, I was obese. I do not like that word. Obesity leads to diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer's disease and other bad stuff. While I do not have diabetes, I have been convicted with heart disease.
Whatever method I took to loose weight, it just wasn't working. I don't like diets, but I love pasta, pizza, sweets, bread, etc. - those are gone for now. This April, I was led to information regarding health and weight loss starting with Gary Taubes book "Why We Get Fat, and What to Do About It", 2010. Other books are "Wheat Belly" and "Grain Brain". It starts with eliminating wheat and wheat products, all processed foods - staying away from fast foods and the bakery aisle. And of course sugar. What's left are natural whole foods including meat, fish and even hamburgers without a bun. Also vegatibles and fruits (but the lower glycemic variety). My diet limits carbs to less than 50 grams per day, protein at about 60 to 75 grams per day and fats should be 50% to 65% of the calories consumed. It's called a ketogenic diet - you can look that up HERE. This is me today (July 2015) - since mid-April, I've lost 27 pounds. While my BMI is still one point over being too high, I will be on this diet till that gets to a moderate level.
One of the best things about this diet is that one does not get hungry an hour and a half after a meal. It also improves blood pressure and lipids to a point where meds will not be necessary - this however should be monitored by your doctor.
Update February 2016, I'm at 142#, a loss of 50# - photo to follow soon.
